Crossfire's Vision: A Missional Church

In 20th century North America, when we sent missionaries to a non-Christian foreign culture, the missionaries would set up a “missional” church. “Missional” means they adapted everything they did: in worship, discipleship, community and service, so as to engage the non-Christian culture around them. Canada is fast becoming a non-Christian culture. People no longer come to church because it is the culture of our country. Therefore, if Crossfire is to engage our culture, we must be “missional”. Whatever we do, we must do it with thought to engaging and entering into the non-Christian culture around us.

WHAT DOES A “MISSIONAL” CHURCH LOOK LIKE?

1. The members love and talk positively about the city/neighbourhood.

2. The members are interested in, and engaged with, the community.

3. The members do not speak “Christianese”; they use language the community understands.

4. The members exhibit concern for the poor, are generous with their money, and show respect and humility to other races and cultures, male or female.

5. The members do not speak badly of other Christians or churches.

6. Bible truths are applied in a practical way to the concerns and issues of the community.

7. Seekers and non-believers are invited to come, stay, and explore spiritual issues in a safe environment.

8. Its structures, staffing priorities, budget, and use of resources are intentionally focused around a passion for calling people into the Kingdom of God.
